Bayleaf Baptist Church

Our family went to Bayleaf Baptist Church in north Raleigh today. It was a nice church with good worship and great preaching. So much about the style, people, and culture reminded me of the church I grew up in, First Baptist Church, Clinton, SC. Bayleaf is celebrating their 125th anniversary, and they appear to be a rural church which has grown exponentially in the past number of years, evidently under stable, capable leadership. The pastor has been there nearly thirty years.

With the heat index at 110 degrees today in Raleigh, wouldn't you expect it -- the air conditioning in half the sanctuary had gone out. The third service at 11am, which was packed, was also pretty hot. It looked like 75 years ago in the South where everyone was fanning and sweating so much their backs were sticking to the pew.

Pastor Ron Rowe's eloquent sermon was on the necessity of commitment to prayer from Ephesians 6:18. He was concluding a series on spiritual warfare.
