First deer of the season

I finally got my first deer, and I didn't even fire a shot. We hit one about 100-110 lbs. on NC 96 north of Oxford yesterday just above Roy Laney's. I didn't know that hitting a deer did not make your car insurance go up in NC until today. If I had missed the deer and hit the ditch and wrecked, it would have been a one-car collision and would have affected the premiums. The agent said, "ALWAYS hit the deer. Always." the damage estimate is $2025.00. The whole front end was affected.

Our whole family was in the car. We were thankful that only the deer got hurt (pretty much knocked his back end off.) There was nothing I could do. Now I know to aim for the deer when it's inevitable that something has to give.
