The power of Vacation Bible School

It’s no surprise that vacation Bible school (VBS) wins souls. But just how many souls may shock you. In 2006 nearly 3 million people were enrolled in VBS, which led to 212,000 Sunday school prospects for local churches. Of those prospects approximately 40,000 subsequently enrolled. One in 16 children ages 5 to 12 in the country participated in VBS in 2006. “It is startling to realize that in vacation Bible school in 2006, we documented 94,980 decisions to accept Christ,” said Jerry Wooley, VBS specialist at LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). “That is 1.1 decision for every one person trained as a VBS worker by our state conventions. That is phenomenal when you consider that statistically SBC-wide it takes 44 people to win one person to Christ.” [Baptist Press, 2/28/08]
